The Ritual of Application: Technique Over Product
You could have the most expensive liquid cleanser in the world, but if your application technique is flawed, you won’t see the desired results. Professional-level hair care is as much about the “how” as it is about the “what.”
The Importance of Saturation
Before applying any product, the hair must be completely saturated with lukewarm water. This takes longer than most people realize. Proper saturation helps the product distribute evenly and reduces the amount of friction needed to create a lather.
Scalp Massage vs. Strand Scrubbing
A common mistake is focusing the cleansing product on the ends of the hair. The ends are the oldest and driest parts of the hair and rarely need direct scrubbing. Instead, the focus should be entirely on the scalp. Using the pads of the fingers (never the nails) to massage the scalp stimulates blood flow and breaks up oil. When the product is rinsed, the suds will naturally travel down the ends, providing enough cleansing without causing dryness.
Temperature Control
While a hot shower feels relaxing, high heat can be detrimental to hair. Hot water strips away essential oils too quickly and can leave the scalp inflamed. Rinsing with lukewarm water, followed by a cooler rinse at the very end, helps to smooth the hair fiber and enhance natural shine.
